Rear wing

리어 윙

This component, mounted at the very rear of the chassis, is shaped like an inverted airplane wing. It generates a significant portion of the vehicle's overall downforce, enhancing rear wheel traction. On straight sections, it performs the DRS function by opening the upper part of the wing (flap) to reduce air resistance.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the rear wing look different from circuit to circuit?
Different circuits require different compromises between downforce and drag depending on how many long straights and corners they have, so teams adjust the rear-wing specification accordingly.
What happens when the rear-wing angle is increased?
In general, rear downforce increases, but aerodynamic drag also rises, which can reduce straight-line top speed.
