Sprint Qualifying
스프린트 퀄리파잉
This is a mini-qualifying session conducted to determine the starting order for the short event race known as the 'Sprint' race. It was previously referred to as the 'Sprint Shootout.' Similar to the main qualifying for Sunday's race, it consists of three stages (SQ1, SQ2, SQ3), but each session is significantly shorter. Due to the limited time, drivers must push to their limits as soon as they hit the track, creating a tense and thrilling atmosphere. Typically, there are mandatory tire compounds that must be used in each stage.

Frequently asked questions
How is Sprint Qualifying different from regular Qualifying?
Sprint Qualifying determines the starting order for the Sprint. It is divided into SQ1, SQ2 and SQ3, with shorter sessions than regular Qualifying. Its results apply only to the Sprint grid, while the Grand Prix grid is set by a separate Qualifying session.
If a driver is eliminated in Sprint Qualifying, do they miss the Sprint?
No. Elimination in SQ1 or SQ2 only means the driver does not advance to the next qualifying segment. They still take part in the Sprint and start from the position determined by their qualifying result.
